The first thing to consider is the type of ladder rack you need. There are two basic types of ladder racks: those that mount on the roof and those that mount on the bed (or tray). If you often transport tall ladders, then a roof-mounted rack is probably the best option for you. But if you typically carry shorter ladders, then a bed-mounted rack will probably be more convenient.

Another thing to keep in mind is the weight capacity of the ladder rack you're considering. Make sure that it can accommodate the weight of your ladders, as well as any other gear you might want to bring along. All ladder racks have a maximum weight capacity so certainly check that the rack you have will accommodate the things you want to transport and it's always better to be safe than sorry and choose a rack that has a higher weight capacity if you think you might need it.
